Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s highly-anticipated corruption trial involving 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) will commence on Wednesday, Aug 28.

The former Prime Minister, 66, is facing four charges of having used his positions to obtain gratification totalling RM2.3 billion in 1MDB funds; and 21 counts of money laundering involving the same money.

The trial had originally been scheduled to start on Aug 19, but judge Sequerah allowed an application by senior deputy public prosecutor Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram to postpone the trial to give way for Najib’s SRC International Sdn Bhd trial to be completed first.

Monday’s trial, dubbed the Tanore-1MDB trial, will be led by prosecutor Sri Ram and counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, who will represent Najib.
