There is a claim online that a foundation offering opportunities to assist in projects in exchange for membership is linked to AirAsia Group Bhd founder Tan Sri Tony Fernandes. But it is not.
In a statement today, the airline company denied establishing any foundation other than the official AirAsia Foundation and said the “Tony Fernandes Foundation” is fictitious and in no way linked to AirAsia or Tony.
AirAsia added that it would never request personal data or details from people unless specific and lawful measures have been put in place.
“We will not hesitate to take legal action against individuals or groups who purport to use the AirAsia brand or fraudulently or commit identity theft,” it said.

“Any message purporting to be from Tony Fernandes or Mark Kelvin or sent in relation to a ‘Tony Fernandes Foundation’ is fraudulent.
“The public are advised to be cautious and always refer to AirAsia’s official social media channels for the latest company news in respect of such matters,” the group reportedly said.
The group then urged members of public to keep in touch with AirAsia’s official communication channel when in doubt or to report suspected scams involving the group.
It added that it would never request personal data or details from people unless specific and lawful measures have been put in place.
“We will not hesitate to take legal action against individuals or groups who purport to use the AirAsia brand or fraudulently or commit identity theft.
“The public are advised that AirAsia shall not be held liable for any claims arising from schemes in which it and any of its authorised officers or employees have no involvement.”
