PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim dismissed a viral video of him allegedly using the word “barua” (lackey) on Monday as nothing but dumb politics.
“It was dumb politics. I was clearly seen joking with the PM and Mat Sabu. I said ‘semangat maruah ini’ and the PM heard it. This is all a trivial matter,” he said when asked if he did say the word “barua” in the video.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Sabu when met by reporters at the Parliament lobby said he did not hear such word as he was at quite a distance from both Anwar and Dr Mahathir.
KUALA LUMPUR: PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim dismissed a viral video of him allegedly using the word “barua” (lackey) on Monday as nothing but dumb politics.
Anwar claimed that what transpired between him, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu as seen in the video was them simply joking with each other.
“It was dumb politics. I was clearly seen joking with the PM and Mat Sabu. I said ‘semangat maruah ini’ and the PM heard it. This is all a trivial matter,” he said when asked if he did say the word “barua” in the video.
In the video, Anwar was heard saying “Lepas pi (pergi) kongres maruah ni, dia semangat lain macam (after attending the congress, your spirit feels like something else)” to the premier and Mohamad.
The word “maruah” could have been mistakenly heard as “barua”, a derogatory Malay term for lackey.
Meanwhile, Mohamad when met by reporters at the Parliament lobby said he did not hear such word as he was at quite a distance from both Anwar and Dr Mahathir.
“I am not sure about the word he (Anwar) said. (You) Have to ask him. He was a bit far from me, at that time we were walking out of the meeting,” he said.
