Former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has formally joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), a news report read.
The move is seen to be an attempt by Muhyiddin to prevent the mass exodus of PPBM leaders and grassroots on the basis that Azmin has confidence in the party.
The move is also believed to be an attempt to shore up Muhyiddin’s ratings by sending a message to Members of Parliament that Azmin is with Muhyiddin, not Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Regardless, Azmin’s participation in PPBM means he is now a member of Muafakat Nasional and can be considered as Muhyiddin’s deputy in the coalition.
PETALING JAYA: Former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has formally joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), a news report read.
According to the report, Azmin joined the party along with top leaders of non-governmental organisations Penggerak Komuniti Negara, Nations of Women, Pemuda Negara and Wanita Muda Negara in the presence of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at the National Congress event, here, today.
It is understood that their applications had been accepted with immediate effect.
The move is seen to be an attempt by Muhyiddin to prevent the mass exodus of PPBM leaders and grassroots on the basis that Azmin has confidence in the party.
The move is also believed to be an attempt to shore up Muhyiddin’s ratings by sending a message to Members of Parliament that Azmin is with Muhyiddin, not Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
However, no one has thus far suggested that Azmin is with Mahathir, indicating that the present government is taking measures to prevent any further damage to its already flagging popularity.
Azmin’s participation in PPBM along with those named above does not change Perikatan Nasional’s standing in parliament, currently at 113 seats.
Some have gone so far as to claim that the number has already reduced, judging from the 111-vote Muhyiddin secured in his bid to eject the previous Dewan Rakyat Speaker.
Regardless, Azmin’s participation in PPBM means he is now a member of Muafakat Nasional and can be considered as Muhyiddin’s deputy in the coalition.
