Former PKR division chief for Bera Zakaria Abd Hamid was appointed the new chairman of the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) effective yesterday.
Zakaria found himself in the limelight for all the wrong reasons last November following his sacking from PKR due to his ties with Bian.
On the 24th of November 2019, Zakaria claimed he was sacked from the party without being given the opportunity to defend himself and only learned of his sacking through media.
According to Zakaria, Anwar and Saifudin lied repeatedly by saying the sacking was based upon recommendations by the MACC.
PETALING JAYA: Former PKR division chief for Bera Zakaria Abd Hamid was appointed the new chairman of the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) effective yesterday.
According to a statement by Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, the appointment of Zakaria along with a new board was to further improve the national film agency.
Zakaria, who holds a degree in urban planning from California State University in the United States, replaced Datuk Gerald Hans Isaac of the KRU fame who served since April 2019.
He found himself in the limelight for all the wrong reasons last November following his sacking from PKR due to his ties with Bian.
On the 24th of November 2019, Zakaria claimed he was sacked from the party without being given the opportunity to defend himself and only learned of his sacking through media.
Six days later, he responded to a statement by Keadilan Secretary General Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution and Keadilan President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim regarding his sacking from the party.
According to Zakaria, Anwar and Saifudin lied repeatedly by saying the sacking was based upon recommendations by the MACC.
“In fact, paragraph 4 of the letter from the MACC to Keadilan enclosing the so-called report clearly envisages that an enquiry is to be held into the complaint against me by the party disciplinary board.
“Why did Anwar, Saifudin and the disciplinary board ignore this? In clear breach of this, I was sacked without even an enquiry.
“This is in breach of every known principle of decency and justice,” he said.
Zakaria went on to accuse Anwar and Saifuddin of byllying him relentlessly by taking pot-shots at him through the media.
“Deputy Chief Commissioner of MACC Datuk Azam Baki has confirmed that the DPP has decided that there will be no prosecution against me.
“It is thus mischievous and ill-intentioned of Anwar and Saifuddin to give the false perception that I have committed the offence of corruption,”he added.
