Bernama reports that Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, Member of Parliament for Bintulu, Sarawak, has been appointed the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to China with ministerial status.
In a statement today, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said the appointment of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president would strengthen bilateral relations between Malaysia and China especially in trade and investment.
Tiong replaces DAP national chairman and Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai who was previously appointed to the post on the 31st of August 2018.
Tan’s appointment was met with criticism from Barisan Nasional leaders as Pakatan Harapan had previously lambasted the Barisan Nasional government over such appointments, deeming them a waste of funds.
