KUALA LUMPUR: The trial involving former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak resumed at 2:40pm today, after it had to be adjourned at 12:30pm following a bomb scare at the Kuala Lumpur Courts Complex.

Najib is facing seven charges, comprising three for criminal breach of trust, one for abuse of power and three for money laundering charges involving RM42 million allegedly from SRC International Sdn Bhd.

The court complex had to be vacated, and people were evacuated beginning 12:25pm after the Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) police station received a call on the alleged presence of a bomb at the court complex.

It is understood the matter was earlier highlighted to the police and court complex administration before the decision to evacuate.

Later in the afternoon, it was learnt that the TTDI police received a call at 11.10am from a man, who alleged there was a blast at the court complex.

This is the first time during Najib’s SRC trial that the case had to be adjourned early due to a bomb-related threat.

At about 12:22pm, High Court deputy registrar Mahyudin Mohd Som informed the parties involved in the case of the warning by the authorities when lawyer Harvinderjit Singh was cross-examining former AmBank relationship manager Joanna Yu Ging Ping.

This led to High Court Judge Justice Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali calling for an adjournment and the court to be vacated immediately.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur CID chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Rusdi Mohd Isa confirmed that the police received a call at 11:10am from the man, who claimed there was a blast at the court complex.

“Action has been taken and there is no explosive material found,” he said.

Najib’s trial resumed after the scare with Yu’s cross-examination. However, the prosecution, led by Datuk V. Sithambaram, is making an application for more transcripts of the witness’ chats to be tendered.
