Breaking: Malaysia has three confirmed Coronavirus cases

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad today confirmed that three Chinese citizens who were tested positive for Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) were in Malaysia.

According to Dzulkefly, the three, who have been quarantined at a hotel in Johor Baru over the past few day, were “close contacts” of a coronavirus patient.

Wuhan, a Chinese city of 11 million people, recently suffered a coronavirus outbreak which has since spread all across China.

To date, China alone has almost 1,300 confirmed Coronovirus cases with 41 casualties reported thus far.


PETALING JAYA: Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad today confirmed that three Chinese citizens who were tested positive for Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) were in Malaysia.

According to Dzulkefly, the three, who have been quarantined at a hotel in Johor Baru over the past few day, were “close contacts” of a coronavirus patient.




The patient is a 66-year-old Chinese national from Wuhan who tested positive for the virus in Singapore and is currently being treated there.

The three infected Chinese nationals have since been moved to the Sungai Buloh Hospital in Selangor for treatment.

Yesterday, The Star Online reported that eight people have been isolated and are being monitored by health officers at a hotel in Johor Baru for symptoms related to the Wuhan coronavirus (2019-nCoV).

Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye said the eight were not patients but were being observed in case they develop any symptoms.

Wuhan, a Chinese city of 11 million people, recently suffered a coronavirus outbreak which has since spread all across China.

Initially, the city was cordoned off with no one being allowed to exit or enter apart from trucks supplying medical aid and instruments.

However, due to the rising number of infections, Chinese authorities have expanded travel restrictions to a few other cities near Wuhan.
