KUALA LUMPUR: Budget 2021 was passed with a voice vote at 3.24pm in Parliament on Thursday (Nov 26).

Prior to that, the government granted an allowance for all contributors to the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) affected by the Covid-19 pandemic to withdraw up to RM10,000, fulfilling one of two conditions put forward by Barisan Nasional for it to support the supply bill.

There was a sense of relief among Perikatan Nasional lawmakers.

An attempt by Mahfuz Omar (Harapan-Pokok Sena) to initiate a bloc vote failed to materialise due to lacking the required support of 15 MPs.

Only 13 MPs stood up in support, meaning, the majority of opposition Members of Parliament were in favour of the Budget.

The RM322.5bil federal budget, the nation’s largest ever, was passed despite a call by the Opposition for bloc voting.
