Hours ago, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad alleged that PAS formally stated its commitment not to support Umno during the Semenyih by-election.
According to him, the commitment was delivered both verbally and in writing, presumably by Dato’ Seri Abdul Hadi Awang during a meeting with the PAS president at the Yayasan Al-Bukhari in Kuala Lumpur.
“PAS has said they will not support Umno in the by-election.
“They confirmed this not only verbally, but in writing that was signed,” he said.
If indeed that is the case, I demand that evidence of the commitment be made public.
The reason being, a senior PAS leader in Selangor issued a directive completely to the contrary, in writing, requiring the party’s state machineries to attend nominations in Semenyih as show of support for Barisan Nasional’s choice candidate.
That directive is now in public spheres (see picture below), meaning, the onus is now on Mahathir to prove that PAS did give it to him in writing that the party would not support UMNO during the upcoming by-election.
The ball, as they say, is in Mahathir’s court.
