Sabah UMNO chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin has dissociated his party from rumours of attempts to topple the Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan)-led state government.
According to a news report, Bung said he did not have much knowledge of purported moves to form a new state government but UMNO had nothing to do with such efforts.
Bung’s latest denial is a complete about turn from his previous confession that he was indeed involved in communications with Sabah state legislative members from the government block to get them to leave their respective parties.
On the 23rd of June 2020, Bung alleged that he had been calling state representatives and meeting them in coffee shops to discuss the matter and admitted to meeting Kuala Penyu’s Limus Jury and Sugut’s James Ratib, both of whom left UPKO and pledged support for Perikatan Nasional.
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah UMNO chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin has dissociated his party from rumours of attempts to topple the Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan)-led state government.
According to a news report, Bung said he did not have much knowledge of purported moves to form a new state government but UMNO had nothing to do with such efforts.
“Sabah Umno is not behind such (reported) efforts. What I know is that now is the time to strengthen Sabah Umno to face the next general election,” he was quoted as saying.
However, Sabah Warisan Information Chief Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob had previously chided Bung for denying his involvement in efforts to lobby state assemblypersons from Warisan to leave the party.
On the 26th of July 2020, Yusof described Bung’s denial of the allegation as a lie, likening it to ‘someone who defecated by the roadside but won’t admit it’.
“They are now deflecting it to Warisan and denying any lobbying for state assemblypersons from Warisan to leave the party.
“This is also a false statement from him (Bung Moktar) and trying to cover up his own wrongdoing,” he said in a statement on Friday.
Commenting further, Dr Yusof said that so far, the state assemblypersons from Warisan were aware they were being ‘hunted’ by certain parties but have ignored such advances.
Bung’s latest denial is a complete about turn from his previous confession that he was indeed involved in communications with Sabah state legislative members from the government block to get them to leave their respective parties.
