#TTFCovid19: A Northern California city council official was ousted after he wrote on social media that the novel Coronavirus allows the sick, old and homeless to meet their “natural course in nature.”
According to reports, Antioch’s five city council members voted unanimously in a special ‘sitting’ via the internet to remove Ken Turnage II from his post as chairman of the city’s planning commission.
“The World has been introduced to a new phrase Herd Immunity which is a good one. In my opinion we need to adapt a Herd Mentality. A herd gathers its ranks, it allows the sick, the old, the injured to meet its natural course in nature,” he was quoted as saying on Facebook.
On the homeless, Turnage said the virus would “fix what is a significant burden on our society.”
A Northern California city council official was ousted after he wrote on social media that the novel Coronavirus allows the sick, old and homeless to meet their “natural course in nature.”
According to reports, Antioch’s five city council members voted unanimously in a special ‘sitting’ via the internet to remove Ken Turnage II from his post as chairman of the city’s planning commission.
The vote was held on Friday night.
The councillor sparked furore after claiming that the COVID-19 pandemic was a good way of ‘culling’ those he characterized as a drain on society.
The councillor did however delete the post a while later. But he refused to resign or offer a retraction when asked to do so.
During the special Friday ‘sitting’, Turnage defended himself by saying his personal opinion had nothing to do with his role as councillor.
He added that the repercussions he faced due to the post were a violation of his First Amendment rights.
But officials argued that his posting had caused a loss in confidence and created a “disruption to the city.”
