Clintons Issued Warning – Comply or Face Contempt Proceedings

Fox News reports that House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer has postponed the congressional depositions of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, resetting their testimony dates for January and warning that further noncompliance would trigger contempt proceedings.

In a letter sent Monday evening to the Clintons’ attorney, Comer said the committee had grown frustrated by delays and the absence of firm alternatives after the couple sought to defer their originally scheduled appearances. The letter states that no substitute dates were offered by counsel.

The Clintons were subpoenaed earlier this year as part of the committee’s investigation into Jeffrey Epstein. They are among dozens of former officials from multiple administrations summoned for closed-door testimony conducted by committee attorneys.

So far, only two witnesses — former Attorney General Bill Barr and former Labor Secretary Alex Acosta — have appeared in person. Several others have postponed appearances or submitted written statements, citing health concerns or personal circumstances.

“Therefore, the Committee has chosen the date of January 13, 2026, for the deposition of President Clinton and January 14, 2026, for the deposition of Secretary Clinton. If your clients do not comply with these new dates, the Committee will move immediately to contempt proceedings,” the letter said.

Speaking separately to Fox News Digital, Comer confirmed that the committee had been negotiating scheduling issues with the Clintons’ legal team.

“They’re saying now that he’s going to a funeral on that day, so we’ve been going back and forth with the lawyer,” Comer said. “We’re going to hold him in contempt if he doesn’t show up for his deposition.”

So far, only two witnesses — former Attorney General Bill Barr and former Labor Secretary Alex Acosta — have appeared in person. Several others have postponed appearances or submitted written statements, citing health concerns or personal circumstances.

Comer’s letter makes clear that the committee does not view the Clintons as comparable to those individuals and rejects arguments that they should be afforded the same accommodations.

“Your correspondence with the Committee continues to ignore the Committee’s arguments, misstates relevant facts, and seeks information about the Committee’s investigation to which neither you nor your clients are entitled,” the letter said.

The chairman reiterated that previous exemptions from in-person testimony were granted only under specific conditions.

“As the Committee stated clearly in its November 21, 2025, letter to you, the Committee’s decision to forego in-person depositions for certain other individuals was because those individuals ‘lacked any relevant information to the Committee’s investigation or otherwise had serious health issues that prevented their testimony.’”

Comer added that the former president and former secretary of state do not fall into either category.

“They are not similarly situated and therefore your argument that they are receiving unfair treatment — which you continue to repeat — is baseless,” he wrote.

“For example, unlike these other individuals, President Clinton and Secretary Clinton had a personal relationship with Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.”

The committee has previously released photographs and documents showing Epstein socializing with numerous high-profile figures, including Bill Clinton and President Donald Trump. Both men were found to have handwritten messages in a book assembled for Epstein’s 50th birthday — material that initially drew broader media attention toward Trump before similar references involving Clinton became public.

Neither Bill nor Hillary Clinton has been accused of criminal wrongdoing connected to Epstein. Available records indicate that their interactions with him ceased well before his 2019 federal indictment on sex trafficking charges and his subsequent death in custody.
