A contractor today revealed that Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had paid him a total of RM1.42 million cash for renovations done on a bungalow in Country Heights, Kajang.

Marzuki Che Omar said the Umno president gave him the money in progressive payments after he started work on the bungalow in September 2018.

Meanwhile, when cross-examined by Zahid’s lawyer, Marzuki agreed that the lay out of the interior of the bungalow suited a madrasah or religious school.

Witnesses previously testified that a total of RM5.9 million had been paid for two bungalows in Country Heights which were to be used as places for religious studies conducted by foundations linked to Zahid’s family.

KUALA LUMPUR: A contractor today revealed that Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had paid him a total of RM1.42 million cash for renovations done on a bungalow in Country Heights, Kajang.

Marzuki Che Omar said the Umno president gave him the money in progressive payments after he started work on the bungalow in September 2018.

“The bungalow was in a bad condition as it had been abandoned for some time.

“I quoted him RM1.34 million to renovate the bungalow and he agreed to the cost, There was no formal agreement signed for me to undertake the work,” he said, adding he was then told that the bungalow would be used for religious studies.

The 56-year old, who is the managing director of construction company Tekad Nusantara Sdn Bhd, said the breakdown of the quotation included RM68,000 for preliminary works, RM55,300 (demolition works), RM774,100 (building work), RM42,300 (existing pool), RM250,300 (external work) and RM152,000 (mechanical and electrical works).

He said the renovation was eventually completed in March 2019 but the cost had by then gone up to RM1.42 million as there were additional modifications.

Marzuki said he always collected progressive payments from Zahid by meeting him at the Surau An Nur, which is located just opposite the bungalow.

He said the payments were made either after the morning or evening prayers.

However, he said no receipts were ever issued and whatever instructions from Zahid were given verbally.
