The Congress of Union of Employees in The Public and Civil Services Malaysia (Cuepacs) has confirmed that civil servants have been sidelined in favour of political appointees by the current government.

Daim last week said civil servants have complained to him that political appointees appeared to hold the reins to some ministries.

PH leaders have recently toned down their caustic remarks against civil servants, unlike when they first came to power a year ago when  claims of internal sabotage were rampant.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Congress of Union of Employees in The Public and Civil Services Malaysia (Cuepacs) has confirmed that civil servants have been sidelined in favour of political appointees by the current government.

In a Whatsapp message to The Mole on Monday, Cuepacs president Datuk Azih Muda admitted that the union has received complaints from civil servants about cases of political appointees who took over their roles in the administration.

“Yes. We have [received complaints],” read Azih’s one-liner on the matter. He, however, declined to respond to further questions on the matter,

Azih’s confirmation today supports a recent remark by former Council of Imminent Persons chairman Tun Daim Zainuddin about a trust issues brewing between some ministers and members of the civil service in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.

Daim last week said civil servants have complained to him that political appointees appeared to hold the reins to some ministries.

“Now you (PH ministers) are in government. When you are in government, you have to deliver. You cannot deliver by yourself, the civil servants are the implementers, not you,

“You plan policies, then you say [to the civil servants], take over. (If) you don’t trust them, they just sit down. Without them… you are dead,” said Daim.
