DAP’s Ketari assemblywoman Young Syefura Othman has chided a Barisan Nasional (BN) lawmaker for complaining about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) as well as sexual contents on Netflix.
Lending support to Syefura, political secretary of DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang, Syahredzan Johan also tweeted: “Don’t touch my Netflix”
KUALA LUMPUR: DAP’s Ketari assemblywoman Young Syefura Othman has chided a Barisan Nasional (BN) lawmaker for complaining about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) as well as sexual contents on Netflix.
Malay Mail Online yesterday reported that BN’s Kuala Kangsar member of parliament Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid had raised her concern over the matter in Dewan Rakyat.
“This is about films on Netflix. Are there different mechanisms between those ordinarily used to censor films and those on Netflix? Because I am seeing widespread sex scenes and LGBT elements which are causing worry among the people,” said Mastura.
Syefura in her reaction to Mastura’s complaint tweeted: “Jangan kacau Netflix!” (Leave Netflix alone!). At press time, her tweet has garnered 4,508 retweets and 2,481 likes.
Syefura’s supporter, @emirzing wrote on Twitter: “Netflix has parental control. You need to have a bank account to create an account… Those aged 14 to 17 must have a joint account with a legal guardian. In short, only adults are allowed to have Netflix”

Paul Ooi (@psunster) took to Twitter to express his anger at Mastura: “Hey did someone tie her down and make her watch? No. So how about stop being a homophobic bigot and let others watch what they want”
The sentiment was shared by Tan Sak Moi wrote on Facebook: “We are adults! We are mature enough to be able to select the shows that we want to watch, unlike some people who are tempted to commit sex crimes every time they see anything remotely related to sex!!!”
“Who’s worried? Not me. If you are offended, then do not subscribe to Netflix. No need to censor just because you’re not comfortable with the scenes,” Evelyn S L Khoo also wrote on Facebook.
