KULAI: The descendents of prominent Johor historical figure Datuk Bentara Luar Mohamed Salleh Perang are asking the state government to hand over their inheritance, mainly land, which they say is worth more than RM300bil.

The family’s representative, 59-year-old Mohd Zaini Aris said his side hoped that the state government would cooperate and make the process easier.

“We have documents of proven authenticity that say where my late great-great grandfather still has assets that have yet to be transferred (back) around the state.

“We, as the rightful heirs, hope that this matter can be solved amicably as there were some issues in the past,” he added.

Mohd Zaini said this at a press conference held at Orchard Golf and Resorts here on Friday (Jan 18).

He said there were more than 4,000 living descendants of Mohamed Salleh Perang, who had a right to the inheritance.

“My late great-great grandfather’s assets that are still under the state government are worth between RM200bil and RM300bil and are located within Johor Baru, Kota Tinggi, Gunung Pulai, Sungai Tiram, and Iskandar Puteri,” he added.

Mohamed Salleh is a prominent figure in the state history as he served during the reign of Johor’s modern father, Almarhum Sultan Abu Bakar between the late 1800s and early 1900s.

He played a major role including the complete mapping of Johor and assisted in opening up Batu Pahat, Mersing, and Muar as well as solving boundary issues with Pahang.
