Forgive me for saying this, but even a statue would function better as UMNO president and Barisan Nasional chairman than Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Seriously, there is no better way of putting it.
I’m inclined to think that the party’s high council is either on weed or living in some alternate dimension not to know that the majority in UMNO wants Zahid and Najib gone.
Not only has Najib been convicted of corruption, power abuse and money laundering, his ongoing trial on 1MDB does not seem to be in his favour and is likely to earn him more jail time – perhaps another 12 years.
Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, on the other hand, is himself bogged down with multiple corruption and power abuse charges and is likely to face jail time from the looks of it.
The fact that UMNO sees it fit for Zahid to lead the party and Najib to advise Barisan Nasional speaks volumes on absurdity and is a sign that its top brass comprises “those with excessive baggage” who have besieged the party against the wishes of grassroots members and division leaders.
Najib is the reason Barisan Nasional lost the 14thgeneral election, and it is a miracle that he is still serving the coalition in an advisory capacity.
As it is, many division and state chapters have warring factions split over their support for Najib and Zahid.
These factions are threatening to rip the party apart, including in Sabah, where the Tan Sri Musa Aman faction has completely disassociated itself with a group led by Datuk Seri Bung Moktar.
All this is likely to cost Sabah Barisan Nasional big time in the upcoming state election despite the public theatrics of affection recently displayed by Datuk Seri Rahman Dahlan and Bung.
At federal level, UMNO is split into the majority wielding Team B and the Najib led Team A which has appointed many of Najib’s henchmen to sit in the high council, presumably to tighten Najib’s grip on the party.
Despite the majority, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein’s Team B hasn’t much say now that Zahid and Najib have temporarily teamed up and use PAS as an excuse to justify their continued grip on UMNO (refer article below).
Bahagian Tiga: Sebab sebenar UMNO bersekutu dengan PAS sebelum Pilihan Raya Umum ke-14
Should a statue lead the party, nobody would know the difference, as the present tag team already comprises two cowardly has-beens who are afraid to let go knowing very well that they will be written off as liabilities the minute they do.
But at least, the statue, which cannot be charged in the court of law, will not burden the party with baggage from 1MDB…
