THE THIRD FORCE
Dr Mahathir Mohamad is doing what any man in his position would do – strike with every ounce of deception he has left in him to confuse the enemy. The Royal Commission of Inquiry’s (RCI) report on the nineties forex scandal is hurting him so badly, the only option he sees fit to steer the conversation away from him is to accuse the government of selective political persecution.
That explains why he got his legal counsel to shout conspiracy when there wasn’t actually one. On Friday, Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla threw a bolt from the blue when he accused the RCI of “carrying out the crooked political agenda of Prime Minister (Dato’ Seri) Najib (Tun) Razak.” According to the lawyer, the commission “deliberately” and “maliciously” published and distributed copies of the commission’s findings that were incomplete to imply Mahathir had not cooperated with investigators.
