Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak’s legal needs will be handled by former solicitor-general Datuk Mohd Yusof Zainal Abiden and six associates following the departure of lawyers Dato’ Harpal Singh Grewal and M. Athimulan.
KUALA LUMPUR: Lawyers Datuk Harpal Singh Grewal and M. Athimulan have withdrawn as legal counsels for Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Harpal confirmed this when contacted by the New Straits Times Press.
He said the decision was made during a discussion with Najib at the latter’s home in Jalan Langgak Duta earlier.
“Yes, I can confirm that I have withdrawn as legal counsel… M. Athimulan has also withdrawn.”
Harpal said they had withdrawn voluntarily and had not been “sacked” by Najib.
It is understood that Najib’s legal needs will now be handled by former solicitor-general Datuk Mohd Yusof Zainal Abiden and six associates.
Yusof had raised eyebrows when in 2012 he had represented Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on a charge related to a Bersih demonstration after leading the prosecution team against him in the so-called Sodomy II trial.
