The ball, as they say, is in Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman’s court.
Following a court decision that the MUDA president must enter his defence on charges of abetting in CBT, Syed has the golden opportunity to sit out the 15th general election.
This, in effect, would be a slap on the face of UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who himself is facing 47 counts of criminal breach of trust (CBT), corruption and money laundering in relation to Yayasan Akalbudi (YAB).
Zahid is said to be a candidate for the upcoming general election.
As it is, Barisan Nasional is expected to fare badly come GE15, with multiple online polls spelling doom for the coalition.
Should Syed Saddiq sit out this election, and should Zahid insist on contesting, things will get much worse for Barisan Nasional – it would be the much-sought-after golden bullet to shame UMNO’s court cluster.
We don’t need a rocket scientist to figure out how all this will blow in Zahid’s face, particularly when his candidacy becomes the “talking point” in campaigns.
Come to think of it, both Syed Saddiq and Lim Guan Eng should ‘sacrifice’ their ambitions for the greater good of the opposition.
