Former Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has denied reports that he was the mastermind behind the actions of several top Sabah Umno leaders leaving the party.
Hishammuddin was commenting on a news report in a portal that quoted sources as saying that he had been behind the Sabah Umno leaders resigning their memberships with the party.
KUALA LUMPUR: Former Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has denied reports that he was the mastermind behind the actions of several top Sabah Umno leaders leaving the party.
“ There have been so many allegations against me with regards to Umno in the last six months and they’ve all proven untrue. In respect of recent developments in Sabah, I again find myself obliged to say that I am not in any way instrumental in them deciding to leave the party,” he said in a Facebook status posting.
Hishammuddin was commenting on a news report in a portal that quoted sources as saying that he had been behind the Sabah Umno leaders resigning their memberships with the party.
The portal had claimed that former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin’s tweet which said there was a “bangsawan” (member of the nobility) who had been behind the actions of the Sabah leaders was, in fact, referring to Hishammuddin.
Apart from Hishammuddin, there have also been allegations linking Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and supreme council member Datuk Seri Razali Ibrahim as “agents” who had worked to get the Sabah leaders to abandon ship.
Razali, when contacted, said the focus now should be on finding out why it happened instead of pointing fingers.
“We need to handle this problem… I don’t want to contribute to any other problem,” he said.
Asked about the claims that he was involved in the actions of the Sabah leaders, he said: “This problem needs to be handled… why are people trying to set us against each other? Who is the source?”
Khaled, meanwhile, would only say that he did not know anything about the issue.
