In 2014, Tenaga increased its electricity rates for users who use more than 300kWh a month and said that this increase does not affect 70% of its consumers.
Tenaga and the media called it a rate increase.
In the year 2010 and 2013, Penang drastically increased its water rates for users who use more than 35,000 litres each month. They also plan to sharply increase these rates yet again this year but said that these increases does not affect 70% of its consumers.
However, Penang Govt called these frequent increases as a “water conservation surcharge” – not a rate increase.
Penang govt then said that “domestic consumers have the option of avoiding the WCS by simply using less than 35,000 litres of water per month,”
Tenaga should have called this a “power conservation surcharge” instead.
Tenaga should also have said that “”domestic consumers have the option of avoiding the Power surcharge by simply using less than 300kWh of electricity a month.”
BN must learn the skills of tai-chi from DAP.
Then people won’t get angry.
PS. Other than these “surcharges” in 2010 and 2013, Penang govt also increased water rates across the board in the year 2015 and has also applied to more than double the “surcharge” this year.
