Penang’s forever bridesmaid-chief minister Ramasamy is as much disliked by some rival factions within the DAP as he is by the Malay right wing.
The police arrest of Ramasamy‘s two DAP Indian Yang Berhormat party colleagues yesterday on suspicion of possible terrorism activities has been likened to the Chinese saying that you must kill the chicken to scare the monkey. Its peribahasa Melayu equivalent is ‘pukul anak sindir menantu’.
Political scuttlebutt has it that the Sosma arrests were to telegraph a warning to Rama who told reporters that he has also heard the rumour of his own impending arrest. Here Rama is the metaphorical monkey/menantu of the aforementioned proverbs.

(Note: Racist DAP will not promote Rama to be chief minister despite his more than 10 years experience “in waiting” as DCM (II) but instead installed another Chinese in Guan Eng’s job who did not have any DCM experience.)
Prominent politician Rama is the prime target of Malay discontent compared to the DAP’s Seremban Jaya and Gadek (Malacca) two relatively unknown Aduns alleged to have links to the guerrillas formerly operating in Sri Lanka.
Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin was quoted as saying other DAP leaders who support the now-defunct Tigers should also be charged. ‘Tamil Tigers’ is the shorthand for Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam or LTTE.

Harapan’s coterie of Indian YBs have issued a joint statement condemning the arrests. All the signatories are Indians. Harapan’s racialist approach here is laid bare for everyone to see.
Signing the statement are 16 DAP and PKR Indian elected reps plus one senator. It is clear that PKR’s Indian YBs have greater common cause with their DAP Indian counterparts compared with these DAP Indians getting any form of support from their Chinese Adun and MP colleagues.
For all that the DAP loudly touts itself to be colour blind and beyond race, there is little actual solidarity nor affinity displayed by DAP Chinese with DAP Indians.
And Mahathir really has a special genius in subtly exposing the DAP’s Bangsa Malaysia hypocrisy.
