IGP: Sarawak Report is up to its old tricks again

TTF: Clare Rewcastle Brown has yet to debunk a single claim made by The Third Force in a series of 18 articles that unraveled an elaborate conspiracy involving her and a laundry list of politicians, bankers, businessmen and billionaires to sabotage 1MDB

KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak Report is up to its “old tricks” again by making baseless allegations to create suspicion among the people, said Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

The Inspector-General of Police was commenting on the latest allegation by the website that a key suspect in a graft probe had contacted several police personnel, including a high-ranking officer.

In May, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) conducted an investigation into the Melaka police force over an alleged protection racket of vice dens in the state.

“What is the problem if anyone is contacted. Phone conversations do not constitute an offence,” said Khalid.

“For example, a lot of people call me everyday to wish me good morning and ask how am I.

“I receive 100 calls every morning, and is that something suspicious?” he told a press conference after presenting awards to state police contingents and districts in conjunction with Op Selamat held during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri period on Thursday.

Asked on MACC chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad’s statement that Khalid might be called up to assist investigation on a graft probe, the IGP said he was willing to cooperate with the commission.

“We are transparent and ready to assist in any way,” he added.
