TTF: Dr M, I’m confused.
Right after Dato’ Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi won the UMNO presidency, you declared that you have no plans to work with the party. But did you not already tell us that right after the 14th general election (GE14)? So why repeat yourself now?
Could it be that you’re sending a coded signal to UMNO MPs that as long as Zahid remains president, the party will suffer?
Every Tom, Dick and Harry knows that you’re politically persecuting Zahid to get Mat Hasan to replace him. That explains the police reports lodged against the UMNO president and the MACC’s sudden interest in him. You will do anything to merge UMNO with PPBM just to consolidate your position of power in government. You and I both know that until that happens, you will remain a sitting duck to the DAP and PKR given your party’s less than impressive representation in Parliament.
No?
LANGKAWI: Umno may have a new president but Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he has no plans to work with the party.
Dr Mahathir congratulated Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for being elected as the new Umno president, but said he will not forget “how they treated us in the past.”
“Congratulations, this means he is loved by Umno, and I congratulate him, but we will not work with them.
“They did many thing to us in the past…we could not do anything…we couldn’t even collect donations.
“All my friends could not even get close to me…they were tortured until they all ran away, leaving me alone.”
He said this when asked to comment on Zahid’s victory as Umno president in the party polls on Saturday.
Dr Mahathir, who is Langkawi Member of Parliament, was here visiting his new service centre.
It was reported that Dr Mahathir quit Umno at the height of the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal and set up his own party, naming it Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).
However, he faced numerous problems in registering the party with the Registrar of Societies (ROS), which is under the Home Ministry.
Zahid was then the Home Minister.
In the run up to the 14th General Election, the ROS suspended PPBM, forcing the party to contest under PKR’s logo.
