Lim Kit Siang has called on the police to take action against those who had threatened to cause unrest due to the gathering by Chinese educationist group Dong Jiao Zong to discuss the implementation of Jawi in vernacular schools.
The DAP adviser said the police should not have banned the gathering over the issue of the teaching of Jawi in Chinese and Tamil primary schools.
The Gelang Patah MP added that Vision 2020 will not be achieved next year unless Malaysians resolve the Jawi issue in a peaceful and consensual manner regardless of race, religion or region.
PETALING JAYA: Lim Kit Siang has called on the police to take action against those who had threatened to cause unrest due to the gathering by Chinese educationist group Dong Jiao Zong to discuss the implementation of Jawi in vernacular schools.
The DAP adviser said the police should not have banned the gathering over the issue of the teaching of Jawi in Chinese and Tamil primary schools.
However, he acknowledged that the police were under intense pressure due to “irresponsible and incendiary threats by extremist quarters”.
Lim Kit Siang failed to address Dong Zong’s incendiary, anti-Islamic, anti-unity and racist remarks pertaining the introduction of Khat and Jawi in schools that threatened unrest and pitted the Chinese against Muslims.
If anything, it is Dong Song that needs to be investigated and possibly even banned for the sake of unity and harmony. Don’t be a racist, Kit Siang.

“Now the police have a greater responsibility to show that they are even-handed and take action against those who had threatened unrest over the closed-door Dong Jiao Zong gathering,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Dec 28).
The Gelang Patah MP added that Vision 2020 will not be achieved next year unless Malaysians resolve the Jawi issue in a peaceful and consensual manner regardless of race, religion or region.
On Friday (Dec 27), the Dong Jiao Zong gathering – which was supposed to be held to discuss the implementation of a Jawi calligraphy module in vernacular schools – was cancelled following a court order obtained by the police.
