Liow should step down as MCA president with immediate effect

TTF: The MCA has long been an albatross around UMNO’s neck.

The party is chauvinist in its pursuits and was instrumental in helping Ling Liong Sik and several other leaders of Chinese associations and clans sabotage Barisan Nasional during the 2008 and 2013 general elections. The party’s youth mercilessly attacked Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak prior to July 2015 when the former premier was at his weakest. Liow (see news item below) himself was late in expressing support for Najib and waited until the eleventh hour to do so.

Liow is a weak leader.

He is a puppet to some Chinese clans and takes his cues from Dato’ Seri Chan Kong Choy. His leadership played good-co-bad-cop with the DAP on Islamic issues and fiercely opposed Dato’ Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s proposed RUU 355. He was instrumental in blowing up the Robert Kuok polemic to turn the Chinese against the Malays. As long as he remains MCA president, the party will always be bedevilled with instances of sabotage and be deemed anti-Islamic by the ummah.

TTF is firm that Liow should resign with immediate effect and hand over the reins of the party’s leadership to his deputy, Dato’ Seri Wee Ka Siong. As long as Liow is at the helm, we at the Third Force declare the MCA to be the enemy, not ally.

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA Central Committee members have agreed to set up two committees in efforts to reform and transform the party for the better, said MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

He said the two committees are the Party Election Steering Committee and Reform Committee.

“The Party Election Steering Committee will be chaired by MCA secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan, it has been established to immediately initiate the processes necessary for the MCA party election,” he said in a press conference after the MCA Central Committee meeting held at MCA headquarters, here today.

Meanwhile the Reform Committee, to be chaired by MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, will include the Organising Bureau, Publicity Bureau, Political Education Bureau, Institute of Strategic Analysis and Policy Research (INSAP), MCA Youth and MCA Wanita.

“This Reform Committee will explore MCA’s political line and explore various proposals, such as the transformation of MCA into a multi-racial political party and and many more. MCA respects the decision by voters during the 14th General Election (GE14) .

“We (MCA) will play an effective role in the opposition… this election has also opened up a new era of a two-party system, a goal which everyone was hoping for, and it is the aspiration of MCA that our nation progresses,” he said.

LIow said MCA hoped the new Pakatan Harapan government is able to carry out their promises and MCA would monitor closely the administration of the new government.

“We (MCA) recognise the problems we face and will strengthen ourselves so that we can do our best to rectify them. MCA will work hard towards reforming the party…the two committees will have its brainstorming session soon,” he said.

“For now, MCA is in the midst of getting feedback from the public and MCA members,” he said, adding that a report would be prepared based on the feedback received and discussed among the committee member.
