TTF: Yesterday, I received almost a hundred calls from people of good conscience who wished to know if Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak was in some sort of trouble (see news item below).
These people, some of whom voted for Pakatan, were actually pissed that Dr Mahathir Mohamad resorted to freezing accounts unrelated to 1MDB just to prevent Najib from posting bail.
According to them, day by day, it was getting clearer and clearer that the charges preferred against Najib by the MACC were politically motivated.
However, I assured these people that the former premier would not be detained no matter how many accounts Mahathir chose to freeze.
I told them that the Prime Minister is a seasoned politician who knows that Najib will post bail by hook or by crook.
Not many are aware, that the freezing of the Pekan UMNO division bank account was not to prevent Najib from posting bail or to see him rot behind bars.
On the contrary, the freezing of the account was Mahathir’s way of telling UMNO that as long as the party supported Najib, it risked shutting down.
In other words, the Prime Minister is attempting to turn Najib’s own people against him by getting them to think of him as a burden.
He’s doing this out of fear that the former premier may actually gain sympathy from his detractors and make an unprecedented comeback towards GE15.
PETALING JAYA: A Pekan Umno division bank account set up to collect funds for Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s bail has been frozen.
The “Pejabat YAB Ahli Parlimen Pekan” Facebook page posted that the account, set up to assist the former prime minister’s legal costs and bail has been frozen.
“Transactions cannot be performed. Those who want to continue donating by cash can do so by calling the numbers below,” the post said.
Meanwhile, the Malay Mail quoted the division’s Wanita chief Datuk Zalmah Abdul Rahman as saying that she realised the account was frozen at 7am Saturday (July 7).
Meanwhile, “Solidarity With Najib Razak” spokesman Datuk Mohd Razlan Muhammad Rafii who set up the “Free Najib” fund, said that the another account under the name “Belia Berkhidmat” was still operating.
“It will be open until noon on Monday,” he said on Twitter.
As of 5pm on Friday, Mohd Razlan said the fund had RM137,626 in a bank account and RM86,282 in cash.
Razlan, who is also Seputeh Umno vice-chairman, set up the fund on Thursday.
On Wednesday (July 4), former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Rzazak was charged with misusing his position as a government official to receive an RM42mil bribe as inducement to provide a sovereign guarantee on behalf of the Malaysian Government for a loan of RM4bil from government pension fund Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (KWAP) to SRC International Sdn Bhd.
He was also charged with three counts of criminal breach of trust (CBT), allegedly committed during his former capacity as prime minister, finance minister and advisor emeritus of SRC International, in which he was entrusted with the RM4bil.
Najib pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Bail was allowed for Najib and set at RM1mil in cash in two sureties.
Payment of the bail was allowed to be made in two instalments and Najib left the court complex after paying RM500,000 with the remainder to be paid on Monday (July 9).
Najib also had to surrender both his passports.
