All 26 division heads of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in Johor today gave their support to Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal on his appointment as the new menteri besar.
This isn’t merely a show of support towards Shahruddin, but a message by the state’s PPBM leadership that it is firmly behind Muhyiddn and Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim and is ever ready to wage a war against Mahathir to defend the Palace of Johor.
For the record, Johor currently has the largest number of MPs from PPBM compared to all other states in the peninsula of Malaysia and Sabah.
It is said that PPBM MPs from Negeri Sembilan, Malacca and Penang are also with team Muhyiddin-Anwar and are contemplating an EGM to boot Mahathir out from the party.
In 1998, things were quite easy for the old man, as the person he wanted to oust, Anwar, did not enjoy the support of the palaces and was not a big gun in any of the nine Malay states.
Muhyiddin, however, shares a rapport with the Palace of Johor and enjoys strong grassroots support in the state.

Unbeknownst to many, last night’s emergency meeting by PPBM’s supreme council wasn’t by chance-medley, but Mahathir’s way of seeing just how many council members were supportive of him and how many were with Muhyiddin and Anwar.
Like a castaway stranded on a desolate island, the Prime Minister realises that staying put doing nothing will not guarantee his safety as the sharks surrounding the island have sprouted legs and are now waiting for the right moment to feast.
To guarantee his survival, he is about to strike on Muhyiddin and Anwar anytime soon, as the longer he waits, the higher the likelihood that his premiership will not last once the sharks start walking and lighting up a fire for a barbecue.
Now, read the news item below:
JOHOR BAHRU: Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal continues to decline comment on the content of a memorandum delivered by 23 Johor Pribumi Bersatu division heads to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, recently.
When met by reporters after breaking fast at Johor Bersatu headquarters here last night, Dr Sahruddin who is also the Johor party secretary only said that it was about the meeting and refused to elaborate on the content of the memorandum.
On Wednesday, a local daily reported that Dr Sahruddin had been informed of the handing over of a memorandum from 23 division heads to Dr Mahathir.
However, the menteri besar chose not to comment further on the content of the memorandum at that time.
Nonetheless, many believed the memorandum was related to the issue of the party’s chairman in the state.
