Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has appointed Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid as chairman, effective May 12, 2020.
Mahdzir will succeed Tan Sri Ahmad Badri Mohd Zahir, who was appointed as Employee Provident Fund (EPF) chairman on May 1, 2020, the national utility company said in a statement.
TNB president and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said on behalf of the board of directors, management and all staff, welcomed the appointment of Mahdzir, who has broad knowledge and exposure of the electricity industry.
“I would like to convey my gratitude to Ahmad Badri who had also served as a TNB boad of director, representing the Ministry of Finance since 1 November 2018,” he said.

TNB said Mahdzir was no stranger to the national electricity industry, as he was the Energy, Green Technology and Water Deputy Minister from May 2013 to July 2015, before being appointed as the Education Minister until 2018.
The former Kedah Chief Minister Besar from December 2005 to March 2008, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and sat as chairman of Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA) and Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA).
He also held the position as deputy chairman of Tourism Promotion Malaysia, Ministry of Tourism Malaysia.
