The Government of Malaysia (GoM) has officially denounced the “Deal of the Century,” a peace proposal put forward by United States President Donald J Trump on the 28th of January 2020 as a purported ‘peace deal’ for Israel and Palestine.
According to news reports, the Palestinian side has rejected the US president’s peace plan, with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas saying that the Palestinian people will send Trump’s “deal of the century” to the “garbage can” of history, adding that the United States will eventually recognise Palestine within its original 1967 borders.
Meanwhile, there is legitimate fear that if the Palestinians insist on not accepting the deal, it would give Netanyahu reason to move forward on some unilateral measures, which is part of the biggest fear of this developing scenario.
Notwithstanding, Malaysia is of the opinion that Palestinians have the right to reject the deal as Palestine was never involved or even consulted in the formulation of the proposal.
