Once his men are in, he’ll go ahead and establish a new coalition to replace Barisan Nasional.
The new coalition is set to squeeze Pakatan out of power by March 2019 assuming that the UMNO election goes as Mahathir planned.
THE THIRD FORCE
Dr Mahathir Mohamad is deliberately sabotaging Pakatan Harapan. While analysts keep rubbishing his RM1 trillion claim thinking that they’re doing UMNO a favour, they’re only falling deeper and deeper into his trap the way they did prior to the 14th general election (GE14). These analysts simply haven’t the faintest idea what’s going on.
The subtle attacks on the Monarchical Institution, the backtracking of manifesto pledges, talks of abolishing JAKIM – Mahathir is doing exactly what some of these analysts are trying to do – to swing the Malay pendulum back towards UMNO. He’s getting his men to occupy key positions in the party by giving them millions upon millions to throw around.
Once his men are in, he’ll go ahead and establish a new coalition to destroy the MCA and replace Barisan Nasional. The yet-to-be-named coalition will comprise Members of Parliament (MPs) from UMNO, Amanah, Warisan and PPBM. Dato’ Seri Azmin Ali would then effect the crossover of 15 PKR MPs to bring the total number of defections to 47. The new coalition is set to squeeze Pakatan out of power by March 2019 assuming that the upcoming UMNO election goes as Mahathir planned.
But some of the analysts I spoke to disagreed.
According to them, PPBM had a weak representation in Parliament and could never muster enough support to pull off the coup. But they forgot, that Mohamad Sabu had one hundred-and-one reasons why he needed to be with Mahathir and not Lim Kit Siang. The Amanah president is tired of being tossed around by the DAP and is sore that his party was offered the smallest portion of Pakatan’s GE14 pie. As it is, both Mahathir and Sabu have entered a deal that some quarters believe is worth RM1 billion.
Then, there’s the case of Azmin Ali.
The PKR deputy president is no longer on a page with Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim and has pledged eternal loyalty to Mahathir. In return, the Prime Minister has promised Azmin the country’s top job on condition that the latter agreed to turn Marina Mahathir into his deputy. While Mahathir had us believing all these years that Dato’ Seri Mukhriz Mahathir was the Prime Minister designate, his plan had always been to turn his daughter into the tenth Prime Minister of Malaysia with Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah being the eighth, and Azmin, the ninth.
And that’s a fact.
As we speak, Marina is rumoured to be performing most of Mahathir’s tasks and is said to prepare the drafts for most of his policies. The whole purpose of turning Mukhriz into the Menteri Besar of Kedah was to secure the northern state in anticipation of her coming. Mukhriz is likely to step aside by 2020 to qualify his sister for the top job. Once Marina is made MP, it would be easy for Mahathir to convince ordinary Malaysians that she’d be the next best thing since Margaret Thatcher for the world and the country.
