A gargantuan Malay-Muslim tsunami is fast gaining momentum and is expected to hit both Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) in five states come July, a debacle that is highly anticipated to be the beginning of the end of the PH-BN led federal government.

The five states are Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Negeri Sembilan and Selangor. Penang may still remain with PH, though some analysts have put chances of the retention at 50-50.

All six states are set to dissolve their respective assemblies during the second half of June to pave the way for state elections, possibly mid-July.

With the spate of misgivings expressed by multiple quarters over the government’s failure to reduce cost of living and its never ending ‘vendetta’ against the opposition, the majority of the Malay-Muslims and possibly even a small percentage of PH supporters are expected to cast “revenge votes.”

A well-placed source from the intelligence community has anticipated that over 91 per cent of the Malay-Muslims are against government, and many are willing to travel as far as needed to cast ballots against the status quo.

The 15th general election witnessed the largest ever turnout of Chinese and Indian voters – despite this, PH performed worse than it did in 2013, and BN suffered a terrible walloping at the hands of a Malay-Muslim electorate that no longer believes UMNO represents it.

Dissent has grown since – today, the Malay-Muslims are accusing UMNO of breaking its promise never to work with the DAP, while the government is accused of ignoring issues that go against the basic teachings of Islam, the Malaysian culture and Malay sensitivities.

For instance, many deem Ramasamy’s half-baked slant on the Malays dominating the civil service to be anti-Malay.

Then, we have the Islamophobic undertone in Lim Kit Siang’s recent rant about a “green wave threatening to turn Malaysia into an Islamic State.”

Many consider this to be an act of desperation by the DAP to strike fear in the hearts of non-Muslims against PAS.

The Malay-Muslims want the DAP duo to face the music, but all Anwar’s government did was to support action against a Malay sportswoman who insulted Indians, leaving many to believe that Anwar is firmly under the DAP’s influence.

Every other Malay-Muslim seems to think that UMNO has betrayed him (or her), and when Anwar joined hands with UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahamd Zahid Hamidi and began clamping down on PN leaders, tensions reached a fever pitch.

The Malay Muslims now regard PN to be the last bastion of hope, and the perception is that Anwar and Zahid are trying desperately to cripple the coalition so that liberalism will prevail, to the point that the younger generation will reject parties that champion the Malays and Islam.

And speaking of Zahid, billions of ringgit flowed out of Bursa Malaysia the past three weeks as foreign selling of Malaysian equity went on the rise.

This is hardly surprising, as we cannot expect investors to spend big bucks in a country that is co-piloted by a person facing 47 criminal charges.

To make matters worse, Anwar suddenly gave the green light to all ministers to involve their family members in government related matters.

This flies straight in the face of Anwar’s own “anti-nepotism” policy, which has since been ‘redefined’ to conveniently ‘legitimize’ his own daughter’s appointment as advisor to the Prime Minister.

The public isn’t taking all this lying down, and criticism over Anwar’s cakap tak serupa bikin (saying one thing but doing another) policies has reached an all time high.

To ward off criticism, Anwar began harping day in day out on his determination to fight corruption.

However, when he is asked to explain why he chose Zahid as his deputy over 29 BN Members of Parliament who have yet to face even a single criminal charge, he goes mum.

Recently, Anwar said he would use “all the authority” at his disposal “to stop this madness, this insanity of fighting against other races or other religious creeds.”

Question is, who’s fighting? Is Anwar fighting his own shadows?

A foreign observer put it so beautifully:

“This guy, what a performance. Anwar should have pursued a career theater or in media instead of politics.

“So much drama, (being a) Prime Minister, Minister of Finance, and the minister of gravely fighting the fires of racial and ethnic and religious unrest in Malaysia.

“You’d think it was 1969, you’d think there were mobs in the streets or something. But nobody is fighting.

“All you have, is the Malay majority population who don’t support this coalition government.”

If a foreigner can see this, don’t you think the Malay-Muslims can?
