“The third force seems to have the support of Sabah Members of Parliament and a majority from Sarawak, as well as the consent of most DAP and AMANAH Members of Parliament, including fence-sitters from PKR”

A senior UMNO leader recently implied that Pakatan Harapan was up to no good because its leaders were trying to “buy” off Members of Parliament from Perikatan Nasonal.
According to this leader, and by implication, it is this which stands in the way of Malay-Muslim unity as it threatens to destabilise government.
This is a lie.
Not that I am singing praises of Pakatan Harapan, no.
The fact is, the instability in Perikatan Nasional was brought about by a string of causally related factors, not the least among which is a severe, irreversible fracture in UMNO which party leaders are trying very hard to hide.
The fracture has yet to appear in public, simply because the smaller of two opposing factions within the party (team A) helped establish Muafakat Nasional.
Leaders from team A occupy various rungs at the topmost part the hierarchical ladder, save for one, who is nothing but an ordinary party member.
Due to their presence, the bulk of UMNO’s leadership no longer represents the majority, a first in the party’s 74-year history (UMNO Baru + UMNO Lama).
The only reason the larger faction (team B) isn’t making a fuss or demanding reform is because its leaders are trying to decide if sticking with Perikatan Nasional is any good.
Fact is, team A wants absolute control of government and is not willing to register the Muafakat Nasional alliance, let alone the Preikatan Nasional coalition.
While its leaders appear loyal towards PAS, that loyalty is paraphrased in expediency and is mostly certainly about staying relevant.
In essence, they’re telling team B – the majority – that “you need us, because PAS is with us, not you.”
They’re wrong.
Notwithstanding, unless team B can finalise a deal with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s men, its leaders probably do not want to be seen ‘jeopardising’ Malay-Muslim unity.
Therein the irony.
The thing is, UMNO’s leadership, or team A, has consistently maintained that Perikatan Nasional – which, in essence, is Muafakat Nasional + PPBM – ends once the 15th general election begins.
This is the same as saying “UMNO prefers to enter the election with PAS and is only riding on PPBM to get there.”
So, unless PPBM is planning to dissolve itself and have its leaders join or form a new party with UMNO, the whole concept of Perikatan Nasional is one big helluva lie.
This is because UMNO’s leadership is telling you straight in the face that Malay-Muslim unity was never the game plan, just a ploy.
In other words, the whole concept of penyatuan ummah secara menyeluruh is nothing but co*k and bull, designed by team A to hoodwink the Malay-Muslims.
And even if UMNO does merge with PPBM or absorbs its leaders, it won’t have enough seats to offer them come the general election.
The bulk of PPBM Members of Parliament have long sensed this and have since been negotiating terms with Mahathir’s men, on the quiet.
Likewise, a bulk of the fence sitters in PKR and AMANAH saw this from very early on and refused to cross over to Perikatan Nasional, hence the coalition’s wafer thin majority.
Team B is not going to stand still and allow team A to get its way – one or two of its leaders have also been involved in negotiations with Mahathir’s men.
The culmination of these negotiations appears to be leading towards a “third force,” which, according to an insider, works with or without Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim or his men.
The “third force” seems to have the support of Sabah Members of Parliament and a majority from Sarawak, as well as the consent of most DAP and AMANAH Members of Parliament, including fence-sitters from PKR.
This has led to a positive shift in MP support towards Mahathir. But for some reason, the elder statesman does not seem to want to move just yet.
One rumour has it that when he does, it will be at gun point, with mass resignations of ministers and parliamentary representatives to trigger a general election.
Another has it that he is keeping his cards close to his chest and is waiting to see if parliament convenes this July.
But an insider from Anwar’s inner circle has rubbished the latter of the two claims, admitting that Mahathir has majority support and is about to strike.
One way or the other, whether or not the insider is telling the truth, all this is happening not because Pakatan Harapan is ‘buying’ Members of Parliament, but because the Members of Parliament are themselves disillusioned with Perikatan Nasional.
And the reason they’re disillusioned has to do with the irreversible crack in UMNO, brought about by a cartel of power-crazed maniacs whose only goal is to ride on PAS and PPBM to gain complete control of the federal government.
To be continued…
