There is a massive tussle ongoing within Barisan Nasional over the list of candidates for the Sabah state election, and things are not looking good for UMNO Sabah.

According to an insider, Tan Sri Musa Aman and his team from UMNO are contemplating joining a rival party en masse unless Sabah Barisan Nasional Chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar inserts Musa’s name along with others on the candidate roll.

It is said that Bung’s list is actually Najib’s list and a last ditch attempt by the former premier to gain ground in Sabah prior to the upcoming 15th general election.

But Najib has very little influence in Sabah, as evinced by the 17.63 per cent drop in voter turnout and 6-odd per cent swing in Bumiputra-Muslim votes towards the DAP in Sandakan May last year.

PETALING JAYA: There is a massive tussle ongoing within Barisan Nasional over the list of candidates for the Sabah state election, and things are not looking good for UMNO Sabah.

According to an insider, Tan Sri Musa Aman and his team from UMNO are contemplating joining a rival party en masse unless Sabah Barisan Nasional Chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar inserts Musa’s name along with others on the candidate roll.

For the record, Musa is aligned with Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin while Bung conforms to UMNO Team A led by former premier Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Back then, sentiments against the DAP were sky high.

Even though Barisan Nasional did not field a candidate, the contest was technically between Barisan Nasional and the DAP as PBS, DAP’s contender, was formerly from Barisan Nasional and assisted by the coalition during the by-election campaign.

As a matter of fact, Najib was on the ground in Sandakan and capitalised on the Bossku tagline, giving the impression that PBS would return to Barisan Nasional if it won the by election.

But all it did was put off the voters. PBS eventually lost the contest to the DAP which showed a marked improvement in its performance compared to the 14th general election.

Today, PBS is contesting against Barisan Nasional in several seats and may well be joined by Musa’s team who may either choose to join the party or Parti Cinta Sabah, according to sources.
