Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, and not Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, is Barisan Nasional’s secretary-general, says Barisan deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
Previously, MCA and MIC had described Nazri’s appointment as Barisan’s secretary-general as illegal and not recognised by the two parties.
TTF: Some people are trying to convince me that there is a hidden motive behind Mat Hasan’s declaration (see news item below), that he’s Tun M’s guy, this and that.
I say, for the sake of the ummah, stop the guesswork – this is a step in the right direction as it conforms with the spirit on which BN was founded.
If Muslims want to move forward, the first thing to do would be to stop the fitnah and buruk sangka, give the man a chance and study the merits to his actions.
Insofar as his announcement on Ku Nan goes, I think he (Mat Hasan) is bringing a certain degree of maturity and common sense to UMNO and may well be charting new territory.
At this juncture, I could not care less if Ku Nan is or is not Tun M’s guy as the issue at hand is one of the collective, not individual.
Let BN convene a meeting and decide whether or not Ku Nan is fit to remain as Secretary General given all the allegations of misconduct that have been hurled at him.
I do, however, hope that Hasan makes his plans and direction clear in the next couple of days.
I want to know why the UMNO Supreme Council has refused to act on Nazri for supporting Anwar Ibrahim during the Port Dickson by-election.
Rest assured, Hasan seems to be pushing all the right buttons.
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, and not Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, is Barisan Nasional’s secretary-general, says Barisan deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
He said this was because the coalition’s by-laws stated that any decision must get the consensus of all the component parties.
“Tengku Adnan is still the secretary-general. He has not resigned.
“He has agreed to continue to be the secretary-general until he decides to resign or when he is replaced,” said Mohamad in a press conference on Friday after the Barisan supreme council meeting today.
He added that the appointment of Umno’s Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz was not formalised or agreed upon by the component parties.
Previously, MCA and MIC had described Nazri’s appointment as Barisan’s secretary-general as illegal and not recognised by the two parties.
The two parties also said the uncalled for racial remarks by Nazri in Semenyih had further damaged the ties between the three founding parties.
During the Semenyih by-election campaign, Nazri said non-Malays should not question Malay privileges, as the non-Malays also enjoyed special privileges such as vernacular schools.
Nazri also questioned the appointment of non-Malays as Attorney General, Chief Justice and Finance Minister, adding said that Malay rights should be defended at all costs.
After the backlash that followed his speech, Nazri held a press conference denying that he wanted vernacular schools to be shut down.
Nazri is currently under probe for sedition over his remarks.
