“Really enjoyed meeting Bollywood icon Sri Devi on my recent trip to India.

“So sad to hear the news of the death of such a terrifically talented actress, performer and producer.”

These were the words of the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, who paid tribute to Bollywood icon Sridevi following her passing earlier today at the age of 54.

Known to many an old timer as the Audrey Hepburn of the East, the legendary superstar was said to have been with her husband Boney Kapoor and daughter Khushi attending her nephew’s wedding in Dubai when she suffered a fatal heart attack.

Multiple online reports released by notable news outlets worldwide announced the actress’ death following a brief disclosure by her brother in-law, Sanjay Kapoor.

“It is true that Sridevi passed away. I just landed here (India), I was in Dubai and now I am flying back to Dubai,” Sanjay reportedly told the Indian Express.

Born Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan, Sridevi, who made her debut in cinema at the age of four, is said to have once turned down an offer by notable Hollywood director Steven Speilberg to star in his 1993 Box Office ground breaking release, Jurassic Park.

According to reports, she was at the peak of her career at the time and felt that the offer by Spielberg didn’t meet her stature.

She leaves behind her two daughters, Janhvi and Khushi, and her husband, Boney Kapoor.
