A news report has surfaced claiming that Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul accepted a motion to discuss Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s trip to Saudi Arabia.
According to FMT, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (PN-Machang), who filed the emergency motion, claimed that the Dewan Rakyat Speaker accepted the motion at 9.50am this morning.
Anwar’s Saudi trip is deemed to be a big blow for the Government of Malaysia (GoM), given that Anwar failed to secure a meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed Salman Abdul Aziz Al-Saud despite the CoM’s claim that the visit was at the invitation of the Crown Prince himself.
Throughout the trip, Anwar’s delegation – comprising ministers and top government officials – met only with businessmen and industrial representatives from the Arab nation without the presence of Saudi ministers or government officials.
This raised questions as to why Malaysian ministers needed to travel all the way to Saudi just to handle such meetings when industrial leaders from Malaysia could easily have performed the task.

The Bersatu Youth chief also wanted a detailed breakdown of the trip’s cost, stating that this was important as it involved taxpayers’ money.
“Under Standing Orders 18(1) and 18(2), I suggest the sitting today be postponed to discuss certain matters of public interest,” he said.Ads by
“The visit did not have any major impact as the prime minister did not meet with Saudi monarch King Salman Abdul Aziz Al-Saud or Crown Prince Mohammed Salman Abdul Aziz Al-Saud as planned.”
Wan Fayhsal also claimed the snub could risk Malaysia’s haj quota and palm oil sales.
At a press conference outside Parliament, Wan Fayhsal said the Dewan Rakyat Speaker accepted the motion at 9.50am this morning.
Wan Fayhsal said he has also submitted questions on this issue for the Prime Minister’s Question Time (PMQT) tomorrow.
