I am not asking him to resign, says the person who made the police report against Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Marzuki Yahya over his dubious “Cambridge degree”.

Marzuki, who previously said he had a degree from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom via a distance-learning programme, admitted on Wednesday (Feb 6) that his degree was actually from Cambridge International University in the United States.

“I have been advised by my lawyers not to pass you the police report that I made,” said Muhsin.

PETALING JAYA: I am not asking him to resign, says the person who made the police report against Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Marzuki Yahya over his dubious “Cambridge degree”.

Muhsin Abdul Latheef, 34, whose social media handle is “Mamu Parpu”, said he did not know of the dubious Cambridge degree earlier, despite it being reported when Marzuki was sworn in as a minister last July.

“Some of my friends in Penang who know Marzuki say he has never left the country before and only recently did they come across his ‘Cambridge degree’.

“They asked me to highlight how he got such a degree when he has never left the country,” said Muhsin, who said he does not belong to any political party.

Marzuki, who previously said he had a degree from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom via a distance-learning programme, admitted on Wednesday (Feb 6) that his degree was actually from Cambridge International University in the United States.

Since that admission, the US institution has come under intense scrutiny and increasing suspicion that it is a diploma mill that awards degrees with little or no study.

Cambridge International University states on its website that it is not accredited by US education authorities.

“I made the police report (on Monday, Feb 4) so that Dr Mahathir would reconsider Marzuki as the deputy foreign minister as he represents Malaysia overseas.

“Also, I want the PM to relook the position of Marzuki as the Bersatu chief of Penang – but I am not asking Marzuki to resign from his posts,” said Muhsin.

He explained his reason for lodging a police report against Marzuki in a telephone call.

“I have been advised by my lawyers not to pass you the police report that I made,” said Muhsin.
