#TTFCovid19: Malaysia’s focus is now on restarting its economy after the government today announced that it will allow almost all economic sectors and business activities to resume operations starting Monday.
In his special televised address in conjunction with Labour Day today, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin stressed that the businesses, however, are subjected to requirements and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) set by the authorities.
Among businesses which are not allowed to reopen, he said, are cinemas, karaoke outlets, reflexology centres, entertainment outlets, night clubs, theme parks, Ramadan bazaar, Aidilfitri bazaar, sales carnival as well as all forms of conferences and exhibitions.
Muhyiddin also said the government will also enforce conditional Movement Control Order by allowing certain business and social activities to resume with the exemption of activities involving large gatherings and those exposing the public to the risk of being infected by Covid-19.

“I had a long discussion during the Economic Action Council, National Security Council and Ministerial Meetings to look into ways for the country to strike a balance between restoring the economy and containing the Covid-19 outbreak.
“Following the advice from the Health Ministry, based on the data compiled and best practices recommended by the World Health Organsation (WHO), the government has decided to carefully reopen the economy by enforcing strict health-related SOPs.
“Beginning May 4, almost all economic sectors and business activities would be allowed to resume operations with several conditions and SOPs from the authorities.
“However, several categories that required large gatherings and physical contact, where social distancing could not be controlled, will not be allowed to operate,” he said.

“Enhanced MCO will also be enforced at locations which recorded high number of cases. These areas are mostly in the red zone,” he said.
