Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has opely rejected prospects of meeting with Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to resolve their political differences.

Mahathir, who confirmed receiving Muhyiddin’s letter, said he had to reject the meeting as he had already met with the latter before and stated his stand.

The elder statesman said he would only consider meeting Muhyiddin if leaders linked with abuses were ejected from the new political coalition dubbed Perikatan Nasional.

Responding further to questions by reporters, Mahathir said it would be tough for him to burry the hatchet with Muhyiddin as he couldn’t work with leaders who were facing corruption charges in court.

PETALING JAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has opely rejected prospects of meeting with Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to resolve their political differences.

The duo had a fallout over ways Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (UMNO) could engage with UMNO leaders towards forging a Malay dominated unity-coalition.

Mahathir was agreeable to working with leaders who had either left UMNO or did not have criminal cases running in courts.

Muhyiddin, on the other hand, had agreed to work with UMNO en bloc, something that had never been on the cards since the day the unity coalition was floated.

“He had written (a letter) to meet me. I had previously met (Muhyiddin) and explained my stance, which has not changed. I had promised not to work with Umno, Muhyiddin in the video clip also promised not to cooperate with Umno.

“However, he had (decided to) accept Umno, the biggest party in his government …his party only has six individuals (MPs), Umno has 51 (MPs).

“(For that reason) I don’t see any reason as to why I need to meet (Muhyiddin), unless he is willing to eject that person (Umno MPs), all of them, then I am willing to consider meeting him,” Mahathir was reported to have said.

Responding further to questions by reporters, Mahathir said it would be tough for him to burry the hatchet with Muhyiddin as he couldn’t work with leaders who were facing corruption charges in court.

“I said Umno members (can) enter Bersatu, I accept them on the condition that they leave Umno and join (Bersatu) on their own accord.

“But Muhyiddin said he was willing to cooperate with such individuals (those facing charges). That is something that I cannot accept,” he said.
