Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced his willingness to take a pay cut in accordance with efforts by the government to keep spending in check.
The last this was done was on the 23rd of May 2018, when former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced a 10 per cent pay cut for all Cabinet ministers.
Muhyiddin was asked on the possibility of there being a pay cut among ministers following the creation of new ministries leading to a larger Cabinet.
PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced his willingness to take a pay cut in accordance with efforts by the government to keep spending in check.
The last this was done was on the 23rd of May 2018, when former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced a 10 per cent pay cut for all Cabinet ministers.
Muhyiddin, however, stressed that the matter had yet to be discussed in Cabinet.
“I will take the challenge for my salary to be cut 5 to 10 per cent. I can do it first. (However), we didn’t discuss that today, so don’t preempt.
“We can contribute where we can. Hope we can save some few millions (of ringgit). We can do that,” he told a Press conference after chairing the first Cabinet meeting today.
