Barisan Nasional under the leadership of Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi suffered its worst ever electoral outing since its establishment.
As of 3 am Sunday, unofficial results suggest that the coalition won only 30 seats, well within TTF’s anticipated 29-32 seat-range.
During the 14th general election, Barisan Nasional bagged 79 seats, suffering its first electoral defeat since establishment in 1952 (as Parti Perikatan).
Soon after, several parties (apart from UMNO, MIC and MCA) left the coalition along with some UMNO members, stripping Barisan Nasional down to its pre-GE15 tally of 40 seats.
The 15th general election brought that number down further despite the involvement of candidates from Barisan Nasional’s newfound ally, “Friends of Barisan Nasional.”
It is unlikely that the coalition will ever recover from the debacle.
Watch the video below to understand why that is, why Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will end up becoming the 10th Prime Minister, and why the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong will effectively be kingmaker:
