Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir stressed that he was still the Menteri Besar until a motion of no confidence against him is passed.
“News of my (political) death has been highly exaggerated. I am still here. My government exists. It is not true that the Kedah government has fallen,” he said.
Yesterday, Kedah opposition leader Muhamad Sanusi Md Nor told a press conference that 23 of the 36 assemblymen in the state had lost confidence in Mukhriz’s leadership and had signed Statutory Declarations to the effect.
Mukhriz, however, dismissed the SDs, saying an authoritative source is needed on any loss of confidence in his leadership.
“Who are we to believe what is said in a press conference by the opposition leader? They say they are not hungry for power. Can’t they wait a few more weeks?”
PETALING JAYA: Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir stressed that he was still the Menteri Besar until a motion of no confidence against him is passed.
According to Free Malaysia Today, Mukhriz said said this at a press conference in Alor Star to quash claims that the government of Kedah had fallen.
“News of my (political) death has been highly exaggerated. I am still here. My government exists. It is not true that the Kedah government has fallen,” he said.
Yesterday, Kedah opposition leader Muhamad Sanusi Md Nor told a press conference that 23 of the 36 assemblymen in the state had lost confidence in Mukhriz’s leadership and had signed Statutory Declarations to the effect.
Muhamad’s claim came on the heels of another press conference by two PKR assemblymen who announced their departure from the party to become independents on grounds that they lost confidence in Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership.
Mukhriz, however, dismissed the SDs, saying an authoritative source is needed on any loss of confidence in his leadership.
“Who are we to believe what is said in a press conference by the opposition leader?
“What SDs? Before this, I met with all Pakatan Harapan and PPBM assemblymen, and they too signed a SD supporting my leadership and consented to forming a PH-PPBM state government. That was when the federal government fell to Perikatan Nasional.”
Mukhriz added that members have a right to propose a motion against him in the assembly.
“They say they are not hungry for power. Can’t they wait a few more weeks?”
