“We remain steadfast in winning the confidence of the people of various races so that they will give their support to BN”
GUA MUSANG: The possibility of three-cornered fights in the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14) in Kelantan is good news for Barisan Nasional, said Gua Musang member of parliament Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah today.
The Umno veteran said this was because the people of Kelantan were becoming aware of the weaknesses of the Pas-led state government.
“Through three-cornered fights, voters in Kelantan will have more options and they will elect the most reliable and capable representatives.
“I’m quite sure that voters are wise enough to choose the most suitable candidates,” he told reporters at the Himpunan Usahawan Amanah Iktiar Malaysia in Bukit Chekati here, today.
Tengku Razaleigh also expressed confidence that voters in Kelantan would not vote for Pas, saying the Islamic party, despite ruling the state since 1990, had failed to bring development or improve the people’s standard of living.
“Maybe, it is time for the voters in Kelantan to throw their support behind Umno, which is ever ready to bring positive change to the state and its people,” said Tengku Razaleigh, who is also Gua Musang Umno chief.
He also said there were no plans for Umno and Pas to work together in GE14 in the state.
“Besides, I doubt that the Umno members here will be in favour of the idea.”
Tengku Razaleigh added that he did not want “history to repeat itself” should Umno and Pas join hands.
“The Umno leadership must study the suggestion carefully as the history in Kelantan shows that both parties do not share the same ideologies and agendas.”
In Machang, state Barisan Nasional deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub said DAP’s intention to contest in Kelantan in GE14 will not hamper BN’s efforts to win back the state.
He also said DAP had the right to contest wherever it wanted, including Kelantan.
“We remain steadfast in winning the confidence of the people of various races so that they will give their support to BN,” he told reporters at Pusat Transformasi Ilmu Bukit Tiu here, today.
Ahmad Jazlan was responding to a statement by Kelantan Pakatan Harapan deputy chairman Datuk Wan Abdul Rahim Wan Abdullah, in which he said DAP had requested to contest several state seats in Kelantan in GE14.
