My heart goes out to the two Chinese senior citizens who died rushing for coupons

TTF: I don’t normally post or comment on articles like this (see news item below) given that this is a political blog.

But my heart goes out to Ah Poh, 85, and Law Ion Nang, 78, who died from breathing difficulties simply because they were desperate to get free food coupons (see news item below).

I teared up just reading the headline.

For heavens sakes, can you bloody organisers exercise some crowd control in such situations?

It could have been your own mother out there.

Have pity on the needy, never condone such events as they’re very demeaning to the poor.

If you wish to assist the needy but have limited coupons, spend some time performing studies and shortlist those who truly need assistance.

Then go hand the coupons to them personally.

Be human.

The least you can now do is to get the backgrounds of these ladies and prepare a tribute for them.

I will help you post the tribute. You can contact me at +6016 404 9082.

Do this much for me.

KUALA LUMPUR: Two elderly women died from breathing difficulties after they got caught in a large crowd that rushed to get free food coupons at the ICC Pudu indoor market here this afternoon.

Dang Wangi police chief Assitant Commissioner Shaharuddin Abdullah said the victims identified as Ah Poh, 85, and Law Ion Nang, 78, were pronounced dead at the scene.

“Based on our initial investigations, there was a free food coupon programme for elderly people here that started at 11am.

“The organisers had prepared 200 coupons to be given out, but close to a thousand people turned up,” he said in a statement.

Shaharuddin said when a police team arrived at the scene, the two victim’s bodies were found motionless on the floor.

“There were also other elderly people who also suffered from breathing difficulties,” he said.

Shaharuddin said those who managed to collect the coupon can show them to the organisers on February 11 during an event scheduled at the same place for free food.

He said police have ruled out foul play in the case.
