Najib: We need to promote Islam as a religion of peace

“In recent times, Islam is associated with violence, despair, conflict and mass killings. It has been painted with all of these negative things when in reality; Islam is a religion of peace. It is a beautiful and noble religion that respects all beings”

PUTRAJAYA: The newly-launched Putrajaya Islamic Complex has a role in being the landmark of the glory of Islamic administration in Malaysia said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

The prime minister said prior to this, the Malaysia Islamic Centre in Kuala Lumpur was once the pride of the nation in steering the Islamic development agenda and the new complex has now become a continuity of the country’s Islamic administration.

“I am proud, not just as the country’s leader but also as a Muslim and a human being. This beautiful complex signifies the high status of Islam in the country (and) this is what I have always desired.

“In recent times, Islam is associated with violence, despair, conflict and mass killings. It has been painted with all of these negative things when in reality; Islam is a religion of peace. It is a beautiful and noble religion that respects all beings.

“This is the Islamic constitution that needs to be promoted in the country. This is why this complex is important as it depicts the appreciation of Islam,” he said before launching the complex here.

At the same event, Najib also launched the Syariah-compliant Governance Guidelines (GTU-S) which was formed to assist Islamic institutions under the Federal government (I-institution) to support the integrity of governance and comprehensive compliance.

Also present were Najib’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, his deputy Datuk Dr Ashraf Wajdi Dusuki, Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH) chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, LTH chief executive officer Datuk Seri Johan Abdullah, and Islamic Development Department (Jakim) director-general Tan Sri Othman Mustapha.

Najib also launched the Islamic Financial Centre (IFiC) situated at the complex, managed by LTH.
