PAS’ ambition to win two-thirds majority in the 15th general election (GE15) can only be achieved by working with Muafakat Nasional (MN), not with Perikatan Nasional (PN), former Umno supreme council member Nazri Aziz said.

The Padang Rengas MP said PAS’ proposal to redraw election boundaries to benefit the Malay-Muslim community can also be a reality, together with other plans that may benefit the rakyat.

Nazri was commenting on a statement by central PAS committee member Khairuddin Aman Razali yesterday about PAS’ aspirations of winning GE15 with a two-thirds majority.

In a Facebook post, he said that after winning the election, changes to election boundaries to benefit Malay-Muslims can be affected, as well as increasing the number of parliamentary seats at Malay-majority states.

PETALING JAYA: PAS’ ambition to win two-thirds majority in the 15th general election (GE15) can only be achieved by working with Muafakat Nasional (MN), not with Perikatan Nasional (PN), former Umno supreme council member Nazri Aziz said.

The Padang Rengas MP said PAS’ proposal to redraw election boundaries to benefit the Malay-Muslim community can also be a reality, together with other plans that may benefit the rakyat.

“(PAS’ intentions) are good. It’s just that Umno needs to collaborate with PAS under MN, then they can get two-thirds, not with PPBM and PN.

“I also agree that a two-corner fight is essential to winning GE15,” Nazri said to FMT.

“We can achieve this goal by strengthening the alliance between the three Malay parties, despite the obstacles.

“Straight fights are important in order to win GE15.”

Currently, PAS is part of the federal government through its involvement in PN, led by PPBM president and Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

In the last general election, PAS fielded candidates in more than 100 parliamentary seats in its aim to form the government or to be a kingmaker. The party won 18 seats.

Asked why he believed PAS could win a two-thirds majority in GE15, Nazri said Malays had already witnessed what happened when Malay parties were marginalised.

“Firstly, Malays were badly treated under Pakatan Harapan, which DAP was a part of. DAP really pushed the Malays aside (“DAP memang ‘kerjakan’ orang Melayu”) and the Malays now realise that PH will not help them.

“In fact, even if the election boundaries were retained, it would still be fine. If PAS works with MN, it would already benefit the Malays,” Nazri said.
