Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz lashed out at fellow UMNO member Tan Sri Annuar Musa today for seemingly discrediting a claim made by party deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

Recently, Mohamad took UMNO to task for stooping to Perikatan Nasional’s claim over the post of Sabah Chief Minister following a state-wide election that saw Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) bag the trophy.

According to Mohamad, UMNO should re-evaluate its support for Perikatan Nasional if the alliance was costing UMNO more than it was benefitting the party.

In an apparent response, Annuar tweeted that UMNO had a big role in Sabah and that nearly all its elected representatives would be made state ministers or deputies.

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz lashed out at fellow UMNO member Tan Sri Annuar Musa today for seemingly discrediting a claim made by party deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

Recently, Mohamad took UMNO to task for stooping to Perikatan Nasional’s claim over the post of Sabah Chief Minister following a state-wide election that saw Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) bag the trophy.

For the record, GRS is a non-registered alliance between Barisan Nasional, Perikatan Nasional and Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS).

While it is true that UMNO won more seats than PPBM, it was Perikatan Nasional that won the race against UMNO in terms of seat-count.

According to Barisan Nasional tradition, in the event a coalition wins an election, the party with majority representation in a state assembly or parliament gets to decide on the post of Chief Minister or Prime Minister.

Gong by this tradition, it is PPBM that gets to decide who becomes Sabah Chief Minister since Perikatan Nasional is a registered party and bagged the most number of seats among GRS partners.

But UMNO has stubbornly maintained that the post should have been given to an assemblyman from the party.

According to Mohamad, UMNO should re-evaluate its support for Perikatan Nasional if the alliance was costing UMNO more than it was benefitting the party.

Mohamad said it was time UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi made a clear stand on the matter as promises made regarding the division of Sabah portfolios were also almost broken.

“What happened in Sabah requires UMNO to rethink its political approach. If Sabah becomes the basis, Umno’s survival, influence and visibility will continue to be threatened in the short-term, which will ultimately weaken Umno,” he said.

In an apparent response, Annuar tweeted that UMNO had a big role in Sabah and that nearly all its elected representatives would be made state ministers or deputies.

The tweet appeared to play down Mohamad’s statement, and that irritated Nazri.

“Annuar does not represent Umno nor its MPs. Who is Annuar Musa compared to Tok Mat (Mohamad Hasan)? Tok Mat beat Annuar in the race for the deputy president’s post, he won, Annuar lost,” said Nazri.

“I don’t understand why Annuar is so supportive of Perikatan Nasional, if he supports them so much, he can go and join PPBM,” he added.
